KCPE : KCPE 2008
Posted by Administrator on 2009/1/30 7:50:00 (772 reads)

The 30th of December that had been awaited with great gusto by the class eights of that year had finally arrived. Those who fought tooth and nail to achieve their targets were tranquil : "You will reap what you sow."
Joel Kithinji emerged first overall (now Primary Scholar of the Year, 2008) with 440 marks (out of 500) and was ranked 24th overall in Nairobi province. Closely following him was Kimani Wagaiyu with 437 and 44th in Nairobi.
There were 8 students scoring 400 marks and above with the mean score as 377 out of 500 and we can see that the class did not rest on its laurels while working for K.C.P.E.

STUDENT LIFE : A Mountain Conquered

Seven of the students from the school who were part of a team that climbed Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m), the highest mountain in Africa, made it to the roof of the continent. They reached the peak despite the blistering cold and treacherous walk. The journey was long and tiring but the satisfaction of success fully compensated them.

STRATHMORE : Fall of a [Green] Giant
Posted by Administrator on 2009/1/2 12:00:00 (667 reads)

Wednesday 10th December 2008 was a bit of a sad day for the Strathmore School community. The large tree between the gate and the secondary block fell! It was planted by the former head of state, Daniel Arap Moi on 15th of March 1986, on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of Strathmore. It was large and provided a nice cool shaded spot perfect for sitting down to rest or converse with friends or one's tutor. Many old boys will remember it. It's definitely sad to see it go. It fell under its own weight, tearing at its short stem. Thankfully no one was hurt; no property was damaged.

STRATHMORE : Stephen Maina weds Florence Wairimu
Posted by Administrator on 2009/1/2 11:40:00 (1104 reads)

Stephen Maina married Florence Wairimu at St. Austin's church in Lavington on 29th November 2008. The event was beautiful. The dressing of the bridal and groom's parties was simply superb. The fact that two of the priests were Mr. Maina's brothers made the wedding unique. It was clear that both the bride and groom were very happy. Many members of staff joined Mr. Maina in celebrating this day. There were also a number of old boys who came and were glad to celebrate with their former teacher - whom they love. Here are the pictures...

Saturday 27th November was a day like no other in Strathmore School.

Families of the school had gathered together at the school to enjoy not only the sports, music and the food but to also a good time with each other. It was really fun and I enjoyed taking photos of the students and family members having a good time.

Soccer : Team A 2008 Season - The Smell of Victory
Posted by Administrator on 2008/12/31 15:00:00 (613 reads)

Despite having a slow start, the Soccer Team A charged forward through the difficult season and managed to reach the semi-finals where they lost to the winners of the league - Roslyn Academy. It was a tough league and it was amazing that they did so well despite the fact that many would say that they did not take their pre-season very seriously. The matches were exciting and we were disappointed when they lost at the semis because the victory was so close, almost in our hands. We could smell it.

STRATHMORE : Computer Donations
Posted by Administrator on 2008/12/3 9:00:42 (631 reads)

Jude Ndambuki (Form 6 1981), now based in the United States, has donated a total of 14 computers to the school. The latest shipment of 6 computers was made this November. They are greatly appreciated by the students and members of staff who use them. They are being used in the students’ computer lab, the bookshop and the common room. The one in the common room, which is slim and very good looking, is especially useful. It is used to give computer-based presentations by teachers to both students and parents. This he did as part of the Help Kenya Project which he founded to better the lives of Kenyan students through learning with computers.

Posted by Administrator on 2008/10/14 14:20:00 (1775 reads)

The 2008 Prize Giving Day (held on 27th September) was as rich as expected, being the biggest event in Strathmore’s annual calendar. The event started at 2:05pm and was opened by a prayer by the School Chaplain, Father Joe Babendreier. There were a number of very interesting entertainment pieces from both the primary and secondary sections and the principal gave his annual speech. The prizes presented were many and varied. Two members of staff who will be retiring this year were honoured with Distinguished Service Awards. The Class 8s and Form 4s also graduated on this day.

STUDENT LIFE : Community Service, August 2008

As has been the tradition of the school, the student went for community service this August. This involves students going to various institutions and doing volunteer work. It normally takes place during the April and August holidays, lasting 2 weeks in each holiday. Their experiences were varied but undeniably exceptional and way out of their ordinary day lives as they did their best to offer service to the community around them. The program this year was organized by Mr. Simon Kinyua. Here’s the story from two of the students.
