Coding Festival at Strathmore University – 5th July 2025

Code Festival Season 2, organized in partnership with Skillsmasters Africa and Strathmore University’s iLabAfrica Centre, took place at Strathmore University on 5th July 2025. The theme for this edition was “Coding for a Brighter Future”, focusing on creating digital solutions to real-world challenges through web and app development.

The Festival gathered youth innovators across age brackets, fostering creativity, teamwork and tech-driven problem solving in a supportive and competitive environment.


Age Group Winners & Projects

Under 10 Years (Group 4)

First Position:
Our Grade 5 boys (Group 4) clinched first place in the Under-10 category, showcasing remarkable flair and creativity at a very early coding age. Their project impressed judges with intuitive design and functionality.

Ages 11–14 Years

Overall Winners & 1st Place:
Eco Bites, an eco-conscious web/app innovation by our Grade 6 to Grade 8 boys, secured both the category win and Overall Champion title. The team members were:

  • Bryce Kahigu
  • Michael Mwangi
  • Nathan Maina
  • Robert Mwai

Eco Bites stood out for its elegant interface, strong sustainability focus and practical value—an exceptional achievement for this age group.

Ages 15–18 Years

Third Position:
In the older youth bracket, the secondary boys team took home third place with their app/web project. The group comprised:

  • Polycarp Mamicha
  • Joseph Njoroge
  • Ignatius Elman

Their submission demonstrated technical proficiency and thoughtful user experience design, earning them a podium spot among stiff competition.


Festival Highlights & Impact

  • Youth-Focused Categories: Splitting participants into Under‑10, 11–14 and 15–18 age groups encouraged creative expression tailored to developmental levels, ensuring fairness.
  • Real-World Focus: Projects like Eco Bites highlighted the festival’s focus on coding as a tool for social and environmental impact—not just technical skill.

Spotlight: Eco Bites – Innovation Meets Impact

The Eco Bites project earned Both category and Overall Winner in the 11–14 bracket. Led by Sean Munyao, Bryce Kahigu, Michael Mwangi, Nathan Maina and Robert Mwai; the team developed a solution focused on sustainability and community engagement. Judges praised its thoughtful design, intuitive interface and clear social purpose.
