What an unforgettable weekend for our debaters! From May 8th to 11th, 2026, USIU-Africa played host to the prestigious 4th Edition of the East Africa World Schools Debate Championship, bringing together 29 schools from 6 nations: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Zimbabwe and Nigeria.
We entered the arena with a powerhouse contingent of 42 students (11 teams and two public speakers). Following four intense preliminary rounds, 100% of our teams qualified for the knockout cup rounds! Our students completely stole the show, bringing home 11 trophies and the coveted Spirit of the Competition Shield.
The Ultimate Honor: Spirit of the Competition
Out of nearly 30 top-tier institutions across the continent, our school was awarded the SPIRIT OF THE COMPETITION SHIELD for being the most competitive school in the entire tournament.
We also proved our elite depth by becoming the Main Cup’s Runners-Up and setting a tournament record with the most teams qualifying for the Main Cup (4).
