The Strathmore School Debate have had a remarkable Term 1, proving once again that debate is more than competition—it’s a craft of intellect, confidence and expression.
Dominating the Nairobi Schools Open
At the Nairobi Schools Open 7th Edition, the club made a powerful statement. With a delegation of 67 students forming 14 teams, Strathmore was impossible to ignore.
After four intense preliminary rounds, 12 teams advanced to the knockout stages. The highlight? Winning the Quiz Main Cup and an impressive haul of 13 trophies overall.
Individually, the stage belonged to Nathan Njenga, who was crowned Best Overall Senior Speaker, leading a lineup of outstanding performers across both senior and junior categories.
Rising to the Challenge in Moot Court
The club carried this momentum into the Kenya Secondary Schools Moot Court Competition 2026, where debate met the discipline of law.
Facing off in a smaller but highly competitive field, all teams advanced to the knockout rounds. Strathmore clinched the Junior Main Cup, with Kyle Kwena emerging as the Best Speaker of the competition.
The team walked away with 3 trophies and 6 medals, reinforcing their growing dominance beyond traditional debate formats.
More Than Trophies
Behind the accolades lies something deeper. Students sharpened their knowledge of facts and law, mastered the art of thinking on their feet and developed confidence, poise and time management—skills that extend far beyond the podium.
The Verdict
From commanding debate chambers to excelling in moot courtrooms, the Strathmore School Debate Club is not just winning competitions—it is shaping articulate thinkers and future leaders.
