The Strathmore School rugby 7s team mounted a impressive campaign at the Nairobi Region Secondary School Sports Association (NRSSSA) Rugby 7s Championship, fighting through intense competition to secure a top-four finish in the region. Facing off against some of the country’s elite rugby powerhouses, the boys displayed resilience, tactical awareness and physical toughness throughout the multi-day tournament.
Day 1: Strong Statement in Pool Play
Strathmore opened their regional campaign on Saturday, 20th June 2026, with four demanding fixtures. The team showed remarkable stamina to secure three decisive victories out of four pool matches:
- Strathmore 26 – 14 Ofafa Jericho: Strathmore kicked off the tournament with an explosive victory, outscoring Ofafa Jericho in a high-tempo opening match.
- Lenana School 28 – 00 Strathmore: In their second fixture, the boys faced a tough test against Lenana School, falling short in a physical defensive battle.
- Strathmore 34 – 05 Jamhuri High: Rebounding emphatically, Strathmore executed sharp offensive sets to dominant Jamhuri High by nearly 30 points.
- Strathmore 26 – 07 Hospital Hill: Closing out Day 1, the team delivered a clinical performance to dispatch Hospital Hill and firmly secure their spot in the knockout rounds.
Knockout Rounds: Regional Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals
Returning to action on Friday, 10th July 2026 for the final phases of the championship, Strathmore continued to push deep into the tournament bracket:
- Quarter-Final Phase: Facing a disciplined Nairobi School side, Strathmore put up a brave fight before dropping a hard-fought 10–24 decision.
- Semi-Final (Upper Hill 26 – 00 Strathmore): Advancing into the regional top four, Strathmore met the eventual tournament champions, Upper Hill. Despite a heroic defensive effort against the overall winners, the team bowed out in the semi-final round.
