Rugby Makes a Historic Comeback in the Primary Section!

For the first time in a very long time, the thud of the oval ball returned to the primary school section this year. Rugby is officially back at Strathmore Primary Section!

While rugby has a rich history at Strathmore, it has been dormant in the primary section for many years. Veteran members of the Strathmore community will remember when the game was first championed and passionately driven by the late Mr. Michael Pike. This year, our young athletes successfully revived that legacy, breathing fresh life into the sport and marking the start of an incredible new rugby journey.

A Season of High Triumphs and Learning

The primary boys dove headfirst into the season, fielding teams for the U9 Tag Rugby and U11 Tag & Contact Rugby categories. It turned out to be an action-packed season filled with silverware, grit and massive development:

  • Under 9 years Tag Rugby (IPSSA Champions!): Our youngest squad took the competitive scene by storm. Displaying incredible agility, quick passing, and tactical awareness, the U9 boys dominated the IPSSA competition, ultimately being crowned the Overall U9 Tag Rugby Champions!
  • Under 11 years Tag and Contact Rugby: The U11 boys faced a challenging learning curve in their Tag rugby matches. While they finished their tournament fixtures with less silverware, their real breakthrough came when they transitioned into contact rugby.

Pushing Boundaries with Friendlies

To sharpen their skills, the U11 team later played a series of highly competitive 7-aside friendlies against seasoned opponents, including Rift Valley Academy (RVA) and the Shamas Rugby Foundation. With every single whistle, the boys showed immense improvement, adapting quickly to the physical demands of contact rugby and demonstrating grit!

The Journey Has Just Begun

This season was never just about the trophies; it was about laying the foundation for the future. Watching our primary boys play with such passion and joy proves that rugby is right at home at the primary section.

A huge congratulations to all the boys, the coaching staff and the parents who supported this historic revival. The dormancy is officially over, and the future of Strathmore rugby looks brighter than ever!
