The Strathmore School coding club achieved outstanding success at the recent August Holiday Coding Festival. Centered around the vital theme of “Green Earth,” the competition provided a platform for our young innovators to demonstrate technical talent, environmental awareness and real-world problem-solving across multiple age brackets.
Competing against talented teams from various schools, Strathmore learners excelled across all categories, sweeping the top three podium spots in the senior Web Application Development division.
Junior Division Highlights: Scratch Projects (Under 10 & 10–14 Categories)
Our younger innovators focused on using gamification to promote environmental stewardship and waste management:
- Under 10 Years Category (2nd Place): Strathmore entered three talented teams. Their Scratch-based interactive games were designed to teach young children the principles of proper waste disposal and environmental conservation.
- Ages 10–14 Scratch Category (3rd Place): Our middle-tier team developed an educational Scratch game encouraging sustainable waste management practices.
Middle Division Highlights: Innovative Web Applications (Ages 10–14)
In the 10–14 age category, Strathmore students tackled real-world logistics, budgeting and lifestyle challenges:
- Environmental Awareness App (Grade 5): Our Grade 5 developers built an interactive platform raising public awareness about green living, holding their ground while competing against older Grade 7 and Grade 8 students.
- Virtual Tour Assistant (Grade 7): Designed to streamline travel planning from home, this application offers users seamless access to hotel bookings, car rental services and destination guides.
- Smart Shopping Assistant (Grade 8 Team 1): A practical budgeting web app that compares real-time grocery prices across major supermarkets to help families shop cost-effectively.
- EcoCook Energy Calculator (Grade 8 Team 2): A green-tech tool that calculates household energy consumption and recommends cleaner, renewable energy alternatives.
Senior Division Clean Sweep: Web App Development (Ages 15–18)
Strathmore completely dominated the premier 15–18 Web Application Development category, taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall:
- 1st Place – Atlas EcoMetric (Form 3 & Grade 10 Team): An AI-driven environmental platform designed to educate users on conservation strategies and ecological impact metrics.
- 2nd Place – Mimea Hub (Grade 9 Team): A comprehensive digital farming assistant that provides instant crop disease diagnosis via photo uploads, personalized treatment plans, and direct connections to agrovets and local markets.
- 3rd Place – Omnicore (Grade 10 Team): A powerful, general-knowledge AI conversational assistant modeled to support academic research and daily queries.
- 4th Place – Climalink (Grade 10 Team): An essential climate-tech application that delivers real-time weather updates and impending weather alerts directly to users via SMS.
